Mechanism of Phase-Locked Ice Crushing against Offshore Structures

This paper addresses a detailed analysis of the ice–structure interaction process phase-locked ice crushing (PLC) against offshore structures. Directly measured load, structure response data, and in situ observation from field measurements on Molikpaq lighthouse jacket platform were used study. summarizes new ductile damage-collapse (DDC) failure mechanism for PLC process. The DDC shows that is discrete rather than ductile–brittle transition identifies has length this plays an important role understanding interaction. It reveals can occur most vertical-sided structures when velocity sheet falls within range divided by natural period structure. proposes relationship between be as one occurrence conditions. provides basis another technical route to solve problem.
